How To Promote Out-of-Box Thinking In Children?

Children when small, you love to hold, cuddle and snuggle them. You would spend most of your time entertaining them because they cannot yet entertain themselves. Then gradually you start interacting with them and that's how you begin to teach them about the world.

As they grow, rather than continuing to have them rely on you for entertainment, you need to begin to teach them how to entertain themselves and the most important part is to make them spend time without you right there with themselves.

But will that not make them bored?

Yes! And because they feel bored your kids will be motivated and determined to find something new to do.

You must often think that creativity for kids is being musical or artsy. No, creativity is also necessary for academics like math and science, as well as for their social and emotional intelligence.

Creativity in your kids is needed to think outside the box. But in today’s digital world kids aren’t being creative. Children now no longer transform a stick into a horse or a sword as they can just sit back and pull up a video game where their character can do the task for them. Hence, for most kids, creativity has become something that must be taught by you or their teachers.

In this article, we will discuss some of the ways to promote out of box thinking in your kids.

1. Make Children Question Things

Making children desire to wonder is one of the main ways of developing creative thinking in children. Whenever you are spending time with them, ask them questions like why are plants green? Why does the ocean water have salt and not the water in lakes or ponds? How do machines work? And so on. Describing these things to them and making them understand would make them peculiar, bizarre and thereby encourage their imaginative skills and instill problem-solving abilities.

2. Provide plenty of chances to Express Their intelligence

Another important thing is, there are different types of intelligence which can be developed over time even if the child isn’t necessarily exhibiting the characteristics. Sometimes it is difficult for parents to identify their kids' natural inclination for a certain form of intelligence. In that case, give them plenty of chances to put forward all the forms of intelligence and choose the one they are best at.

3. Teach your kids numerous ways of solving problems.

Teaching your kids or making them understand that there are multiple ways to solve a problem and also different perspectives to look at everything is necessary. Ensure them that be it a math problem or an emotional one every problem has a solution.

You have to just find the right one.

4. Bring out the curiosity in your kids

Children always want to know extra about anything and everything as they are born curious. The duty of parents and teachers plays a major role here. It is your responsibility to provide interesting indications to further drive your curiosity in the right direction. For instance, you can expose your kids to the rich art, culture, and literature of a country and at the same time make them familiar with their hidden meanings and implications. You can also discuss the worsening environmental situations with them and how it is already affecting the lives of human beings and animals around. This way they will be keen to know more.

5. Encourage your Kids to read more

Limiting watching TV or other screen time of your kids is now becoming very necessary to make room for creative hobbies like reading as it motivates thought activity which in turn promotes creativity. Learning new things involves understanding and expressing better, developing their logical thinking, and helping them keep focus. These can be possible by more reading. You should often take them to visit the library and discuss with them about their favorite book and its characters. This is the best way to get an insight into your child’s way of thinking.

6. Free time and space

Giving your kids enough space to freely explore their imaginations. Make them spend a few creative hours at home without any restrictions, parenting or scheduled activities so that the child can just aimlessly roam around and run their imagination wild in whatever they are doing. This will enhance their thinking ability.

Therefore we conclude that these activities can be beneficial to make your kids put their thoughts out of the box and shift their frame of reference. It will enable your kids to think differently or from an entirely new perspective.
